Benjamin F. McCullum was born in Mississippi and grew up in Indianapolis, Indiana. He attended Holy Trinity and St Joan of Arc as a youngster. He attended Shortridge High School and John Marshall High School. As a little boy Ben maintained a paper route. Once he became a teenager Ben looked forward to the summer time. He worked for the Indiana State Fair and Kentucky Fried Chicken to earn his wages.
Ben has always taken pride in working. He was employed at St. Vincent’s Hospital of Carmel Indiana for 17 years. He worked for Indiana University for 8 months, then he became ill. Ben loved sports. He enjoyed watching basketball and football games. Ben’s faith was strong and he loved the Lord. He grew up under the influence of the Catholic faith. He later joined St. Michael Catholic Church where he attended with Mother. Later in life Ben was searching for something a little different and became a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church as well as Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church.
Ben is preceded in death by his father Frank McCullum; mother Bernice R. McCullum; father Eugene Hines; and sister Pandora D. Hines. He leaves to cherish his memory siblings Juanita P. Tucker, Jean B. Arnett, Gwendolyn R. Hines, and Eugene Hines II; uncle Normal Gee; aunts Agnes Gee and Flora Gee; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and many friends.

I went through new employee orientation with Ben; we both started at IUPUI at the same time. He was a very friendly person, and had a great work ethic and attitude. We will miss him at IUPUI CFS.
